5 yr old son

Hi All

My son of 5years have started with pre-school Grade R in an English medium class although he spoke Afrikaans for most part of his life-until last year when his sister was born...we decided to teach them both to communicate in English...

My question though is if it is possible for my son to adjust at pre-school level with English as his new medium...we are speaking English at home as to accomodate him and his sister but Im just wondering if he' ll be able to learn in English as well seeing his mostly Afrikaans. Would it be a learning barrier for him as he is soo young??His teacher said he is a bit shy to communicate at school...we are training him reading /writing skills in English....i need to know will my boy adjust to being tought in English?? Can a child who has spoken afrikaans most of his toddler-years(until 5years) be able to read and write in English ???

He should be able to adjust to this but it will take him some time to settle down.
