Q.

5 month old with 39.6 deg fever

Hi Doc

My 5 month old son has been running a fever since Sunday. It started at about 38.8 and since this morning its gone up to 39.6. Two hours after panado it went up to 39.6 again. My paed isn' t worried as the little guy is still smiling and playing and eating and drinking. His throat and lungs are clear and he doesn' t have any other symptoms apart from being pale and knawing at everything due his two first teeth erupting. I am worried. What is your opinion?

Your baby may be getting an illness called Roseola or baby measles. This is a viral illness affecting babies and young children. The first sign is a high fever for 3 to 5 days then a rash appears which lasts for 2 days. When the rash appears the fever disappears. Give your bay Calpol or Panado for the fever as his fever is very high indeed.
