5 1/2 month old baby has blue/purple tongue

Hi Dr,

I had noticed yesterday that my baby girls tongue was a dark blue/purple colour on the top of the tongue. This morning I noticed it again. She is acting like her normal self. She had an upper respritary tract infection last week. But since then she is much better. The rest of her body, hands etc are pink and doenst have a fever.
I put a scoop of her cereal in with her formula in her last bottle of the day.I have also started her on the creche guard oral spray on Saturday.

Can you please give me some advice.

Thank you

Your baby probably does not have teeth yet so she could not have bitten her tongue. As a blue tongue can be a sign that your baby is not getting enough oxygen, it is important for her to be seen by a paediatrian. It would be best to take her to an after hours emergency paediatric unit for an opinion.
