4yrs old and wont use toilet for nr. 2

Dr please help... my son wont potty train. We have tried everything since he was 2yrs of age. He use the toilet for pee, but absolutely refuses to use the toilet for nr. 2. We have tried to remove the nappies during the day, but then he keeps it back until he goes to sleep. We tried to remove the night nappy but he sleeps so well at night and dont wake when he needs to. What should I do?

This is a problem which is not as unusual as you may think. The problem is that your son will soon be going to school and he cannot be in nappies there.Give him a 10 day break from any toilet training. Don't even mention the word. Then start again and try to tell him that big boys use the toilet. Try a reward system. Show him that you will give him a gold star if he uses the toilet to pass a stool. If he can get 3 stars in a row then he will get a small reward. Read more about toilet training on our Parenting line and on Google.

My son did exactly the same thing. I would tell him there are no nappies and that he will have to go to toilet, but I still had some back-up nappies hidden. This did not work. Until I decided I am not buying nappies again and thats it. I told his teacher (he also held it in at school) she told me he would have an accident once and it won''t happen again. So at home I was determined, and really not having nappies he eventually went to the loo for nr 2. I ovbiously made a big fuss of it and rewarded him greatly. So he will have to hold it until he cant anymore, maybe this will mean you are going to disrubt his good sleep for a few nights - but that is all that its going to take - a few days (nights) of determination.
