4 Year old son still needs the night nappy

My son has turned 4 in December and is full potty trained during the day without any accidents. The problem is that he still needs to wear a night nappy which he hates - I have to put it on while he sleeps. He gets accidents every night, even if I let him go to the toilet just before he goes to sleep. Is this normal? My little girl was already fully potty trained by this age - even during the night time. He does not drink excessively and I really do not want to keep him from drinking fluids when he wants to. His nappy is never dry in the mornings.

Your son is getting a bit 'old' to still be needing to wear nappies at night. He is potty trained. If he did not wear the nappy he would wet his bed. This is called enuresis. Unfortunately he is still a bit young to be given any medicines for this problem. This is only done from 5 years onwards. You can try a star chart and reward system in the meantime and see if this helps.

Hi i had the same problem with my son.I started to wake him at night aswell around 12 and let him wee in the potty at his bedside(he is too heavy for my too carry and he will fight me anyway)It worked after a while. So take him before bedtime, and dont let him drink something after 7 in the evenings, and wake him again at 12!!!good luck
