4 year old refusing to use toilet

Good day Doc,
For the last 2 weeks my 4 year old daughter has been refusing to go to the toilet to make a poo. She says the toilet hurts her and is not helping the poo to come out. On Sunday she made a poo in her panty. It is Thursday now and she is still refusing to go. She tells me she wants to poo but then says she will not ever go to the toilet. I think she was a constipated and must have hurt herself when the pooed the last time. What can I do to help her with this. Thanks.

This can be quite a problem at times. you are correct in that when she was constipated passing a stool must have hurt her. The best approach would be to use a natural stool softener such as Duphalac twice daily for about 10 days [speak to your pharmacist]. This should help to get her over this stage.
