4 days old baby

Hi Doc,

My 4 day old daughter has a whistling and wheezing sound from the nose when she breath, she also has dry/wet snorts blocking her nose but I do manage to remove then but they will come again, why?

In the early hours of the morning she coughed twice n it was the 1st time coughing and it sounds like the is phlegm on the throat like she a hoarse voice

She also struggles to pooh, she has stomach cramps but the pooh is normal soft nd yellow/mustard color, she pulls her leg towards the chest or stretches them and cries and I also noticed when she pushes too hard on the stomach the is some yellow stuff I can see where the peg is and it looks like its going to explode, I use surgical spirit just to make it dry.

She cries when she pooh, but when she manages to pooh the inside of the anus comes out(like someone who has piles) but it does go back after a while.

She''s feeding very well, she''s on breast most times and bottle 3/4 times a day 60mls

I did call her paed the day we got home bcz of the cramps she said its colic, so put him on Novalac AC.

Could all this be allergy or what''s wrong?

Your baby is only 4 days old and her symptoms are unlikely to be due to an allergy. It would definitely be better if you only breast fed your baby as the formula seems to be causing some problems which is worrying her. If you can't exclusively breast feed your baby then you can use the Novalac AC to supplement your breast feeds. The fact that her nose is blocked is important. Babies have to have an open nose to breathe easily and also to feed and to sleep. You can try using infant saline nose drops at least twice daily to clear her nose. If this does not help after a few days you should ask your paediatrician to see your baby.
