Q.

3 yo tongue protruding

Dear Prof

I remain concerned about my 3 yo son who''s tongue is kindof protruding most of the time, accompanied by drooling. His tongue appears too large for his mouth? He speaks well, apart from not being able to pronounce an Afrikaans " ''r" . Should we have him seen by an OT?

thanks!

You have been concerned about your son's tongue for some time now.It is difficult to know who would be the best expert to give you advice about this, but it would not be an OT. Possibly the best person to see your son first would be a speech therapist who could advise you as to the best way forward to deal with this problem.
