3 year old Toddlers bowel movements

I have a 3 year old son who is attending creche. He is potty training at the moment and urinates in his potty at home and at creche, however, when he comes home, he makes his stools in his under pants and does not go on the potty. He also does not make his stools in his potty at creche and in fact comes home and does it in his underpants.Am not sure if he is holding it in, or afraid at creche, hence he comes home and does his business in his underpants.I give him the milk of magnesia maybe twice a week to assist him with his bowels movements, as he is constipated sometimes.Any ideas on how to deal with this habit and also how long or how regularly can I give him the milk of magnesia, as he is eating more solids nowadays.

Thank you

You can try a reward system with your son. He is old enough now to appreciate this kind of approach. Have a set time for him to sit on the potty or toilet. Every time that he gets things right stick a gold star on a chart. When he gets 3 in a row then he can get a small reward, something he really likes. Once he gets 3 stars in a row then move it up by one star each time before he gets his next reward;4 stars, then 5 stars etc. until he is using the toilet regularly. Always make a big fuss if he is successful about using the potty and tell him that he is really getting to be a big boy now.
