3-year old terrified of children

I have a little girl who is three and a half years old. She is overly anxious when other children approach her. She goes to school and is fine with her classmates. She does have one special friend in her class and doesn''t interact much with the other children.
However, when I take her to the playground, she is terrified. When she is on the jungle gym and another child approaches, she''ll get into hysterics.
I''m a bit torn. I''m not too in favour of psychology for children and believe every child is different. On the other hand, I don''t want her to be afraid and I feel she is frustrated because of her fear.
Should I be worried about her or is this a common childhood shyness which she will outgrow with time, love and support?

Your daughter is definitely more shy about interacting with other children when compared to the average 3 year old. It is important theat she has at least one good friend. You should invite that friend to your house so that your daughter can play with her out of the school environment.Try to take the two of them to the playground together and let them climb the jungle gym and just have good time together. Gradualy she should get used to playing with other children and this stage of being so shy should pass.
