Q.

3 year old girl - red itchy genitals

My daughter is almost 3. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that her genitals have a red rash on the inside of the vaginal lips. Could this be bladder infection? If so, how do I treat it as Citro Soda is only suitable from 6 years? I got a tube of ointment from the pharmacy to put on twice a day, but as soon as I stop, the redness returns.

This sounds like a candida infection.Has your daughter recently had an antibiotic? Give her Nystatin oral solution 1ml given 4 times a day by mouth for 5 days and a probiotic, Probiflora Children's once daily for 10 days. Apply Nystatin cream to her vagina twice daily until the rash clears. She must only wear pure cotton pants. No bubble baths.
