3 Year Old Chews Finger

My son is 31/2 yrs old he chews of his fore fingers skin. He' s fingers finger print is half way chewed off. I don' t know if he is stressed about something. He doesn' t eat at home on weekends when I don' t work. His aunt looks after him during the day and she doen' t have any problems what so ever.Weekends at home he hardly eats he' ll only eat cereal in the moring and nothing during the day or evening not even sweets.

I know it doesn t sound major but to me everything with a child is major.

I like you last line. You are quite right.I also agree with you that your son seems to be rather stressed. Biting fingers like this, while not uncommon,is usually not of this intensity where he chews the skin off.He probably does not realise that he is stressed. Sometimes children bite their fingers if they cannot express themselves properly or are trying to be too good and well behaved. His poor appetite is certainly rather unusual in a boy of this age. Try to get him to relax. Take his mind off things by getting him involved in activities such as learning to swim.Play with him and let him meet and play with other children of his age. If he does not improve he may need to be seen by a child psychologist.
