3 month cought

Hi. My son is 2yrs and 8 months. He has been suffering from a cough for 3 months now. We have already been to 4 different doctors who all diagnosed him with flu, but the medication will get finished and the cough will stay. I have also tried self medicating him with cough syrup that I buy over the counter.
I have a humidifier and that has also made no difference. I was advised to take him to the hospital to get his lungs/chest drained because it is full of mucus.
I don''t know what to do anymore and would like some advice.

Your son probably has whooping cough as there is an epidemic of this illness this year. This is the most likely cause for his cough which you describe as not improving with any medicines or cough mixtures. This cough usually lasts for about 3 months so you can expect him to start to get better quite soon. Unfortunately it is now far too late to use any medicines as these need to be precribed by the doctor when the cough first starts.
