Q.

2 year old over weight? weighs 26kg

Hi Doc, my 2 year 10 month old son weighs 26kg. How can i put him on a diet? He is very active, does not sit still for 1 second. He has asthma and reflux (diagnosed in march 2010) he is on medication daily (inflammide, omeprazole &  duolin repsules - nebulizer) Can the meds be the cause of him picking up weight?
He does not eat alot, and he does not eat meat (he spits it out), but he does drink alot. He drinks alot of milk (2% low fat and i dilute it with water). He hardly eats sweets and he does not drink fruit juice. Because of him being so sick &  hospitalized so much we took him out of the creche at the end of Aug, he has been at home now with a nanny and he picked up 4kg. Please help. i dont know what to do. thank you.

The average weight for a little boy of 30 months is 14kg. Your son's weight is really well above this average weight and is right off the top line of the children's weight chart. I do not think that his weight is related to his asthma medicines. What is really of concern is the fact that he has gained 4kg since August. May I ask you to write to our Dietdoc on Health24 for advice. She will be pleased to advise you. Please mention your son's height when you write to Dietdoc.
