2 year old not yet talking

My son is 2 years 4 months and he still does not really say a lot of words. he can''t even say Mama. When I speak to him he understands what I''m saying but he just can''t say even two meaningful words. Most kids his age are already talking and I am a bit worried. Some people say maybe its because he stays at home and there are no kids around, Is this a matter of him not being at creche with other kids? I''m planninmg to take him to creche when he turns 3 later this year. Please help. thanks, concerned mom

Your son is a bit slow with his speech. THis is not because he does not attend a creche. Some children, usually little boys, are rather slow to learn to talk, but I am concerned that he cannot say two words by now. It is important to make sure that his hearing is normal. It would be a good idea to take him to a speech clinic where he can have his hearing tested and then he probably will need to see the speech therapist.

Thanks for the advise. i will take him to a speech therapist. I will have to look for the one who can speak Zulu as this is the only language he is exposed to at the moment. As for hearing, he was tested at birth and confirmed normal.
