18 month old possibly epileptic

Hi Docter,

A friend of mine''s 18 month old daughter had been diagnosed with epilepsy. She is not comfortable with the diagnosis and will be going for a second opinion next week. The little girl passed out last year (she was out for about 20 seconds) after hitting the back of her head. Last week she passed out twice for no apparent reason. She has no other symptoms and apart from that is an active and lively little girl. Do you think there is a possibility that it might be something else? They also checked her heart and found nothing wrong.

This does not sound like typical epilepsy. It is more likely that your friend's dasughter is having breath holding attacks. Please advise her to inform the doctor of this possibility. Also read up more about breath holding attacks on Google.
