18 month old eating habits

Hi Prof

My 18 month old son is bright (speaks 7 word sentences), happy, very active, weighs around 12kg, but eats poorly as many his age do. He eats a single Wheetbix for breakfast, a yoghurt for snack, then mostly only a bit of his cooked lunch and then at most a yoghurt for dinner (after having been offered cooked dinner, special good nights porridge, other snacks). He used to eat Purity fruit, but now rarely eats it, and isn t much interested in whole fruits. We keep offereing a variety and will continue. He gets an omega-3 supplement every day, and drinks 200 ml Lactogen 3 made up in milk (to help sleep better) at bedtime. How long can he continue on this limited diet?

The average weight for a boy of 18 months is 11.5kg so your son's weight is excellent. Many children of this age go through a period when they do not eat as well as previously, but they will eat what they want and need. So there is no need to be concerned about your little boy .
