16 month old with diarhoea

Hi Docter,

My 16 month old has diarhoea for over a week now. I have had her at the Dr and they said just to make sure she doesn''t dehydrate. I give her white grape juice diluted with cooled boiled water to drink as well as rooibos tea. She isn''t really eating (she seems better when she wakes up in the morning, and does eat breakfast) and cries a lot. She did seem to get better and I started giving her growing up milk again but now it seems we are back at square 1. She has now lost about 1kg and is really miserable (she is irritated and crying constantly) the whole time and I am really worried. I also give her a probiotic twice a day now.. Could she maybe be allergic to something?

It is very possible that the grape juice is aggravating your little girl's diarrhoea and this must be stopped. She may also have a temporary lactose intolerance. Try her off all dairy for at least 2 days. Substitute with a soya formula such as Isomil3. Continue with the probiotic given once daily for 10 days.
