Q.

16 month old does not want to eat

Please help! My child of 16 months is not eating like she should. She eats her rice cereal in the morning, then she' ll have a slice of bread in the afternoon with cheese spread. My problem is that she' s refusing food with texture. Even if you give her a vienna she' ll chew a piece and then spit it out. It can' t be teething anymore, because it s been going on for more than 5 months now. She spits out all her food that I try to give her. Even if you give her mash or food that I' ve mashed, she' ll spit it out. What can be the cause of this? I don' t know what to give her to eat anymore, beacuase she' ll just spit it out. Please give me some advice.

This is very common especially the problem you have with your daughter and the texture of foods. You must continue to only offer her very finely mashed, pureed food for the present. Gradually she will start eating better and start eating coarser food with time. You need lots of patience. You did not mention her weight. As long as she is gaining weight and growing there is no need for concern. Don't try and force food on her and keep mealtimes calm and peaceful.
