Q.

15 month old fever and excessive sleeping

Hi Docter,

My 15 month old woke up Saturday night with a fever of about 39,5, I gave her Panado syrup which didn''t do much, so after a sponge bath she eventually fell asleep in my arms after crying for 2 hours. I took her to the Dr yeaterday (she still had a fever) who said she has a bit of a red throat and said that I keep on giving her Panado syrup. Last night she slept for 12 hours, woke up still with the fever, only drank and ate about a quarter of what she normally does and 2 hours later fell asleep again. She has never been sick before, should I wait a couple of days or take her back to the Dr today?

I am concerned about your little girl as she has a high fever and has been sleeping more tha usual. As these symptoms may be due to meninggitis it is essential to see your doctor again. She has been immunised against 2 of the most common and severe forms of meningitis so she probably does not have meningitis but you need to be on the safe side by having her seen.
