Q.

15 month old baby not saying 1 word

Hi Doctor,

My son is 15 months old and does not say 1 word. He does even say mama or dada. He understands instructions and shows to parts of the body when asked but when you ask him to say a word he makes a grumbling sound. He had grommets put into his ears when he was a 1 year.

This is not uncommon, but the real question here is if your baby can hear normally. Having had grommets, he may have been treated for what is known as glue ear. This condition can cause a temporary hearing loss in some children. Please go back to the ENT specialist who inserted the grommets and ask for your son's hearing to be tested.

Hi Dr.

We did have his ears tested after the grommets were put in and the Dr. confirm that his hearing is perfect in both ears.
