Q.

13 month old grand daughter -always sick

Dear Dr,

My grand daughter is 13 months old and she has most of her short life suffered from mucus build-up resulting with grommets in her ears (which has "disappeared") and she will have to have another operation. Her nose is constantly runny but it is a clear colour. We were told by our pediatrician that she is suffering from post-nasal drip causing all this. How can we help this little baby because she is not sleeping well, and her ears are a major concern?

Paediatrician

You need a proper diagnosis here. Are her problems caused by infections or allergy is the question? Your granddaughter should be seen by a paediatrician with an interest in paediatric allergy. There are such experts in all the main centres in SA.
