13 Mnth Boy, Rocking in cot

Our 13 month old boy rocks himself in his sleep on his stomach and knees, in his cot and bangs his head against his cot-bumper. this is very disturbing for us to watch but he does not seem to be in any distress whilst doing this. Please can you tell us if this is common and will he grow out of this??

This is common and is a passing phase. It is known as head banging and rocking, just as you have called it. It is regarded as self-soothing behaviour and helps the child to fall asleep.
