Q.

10 month - Formula

Dear Paed
My LO, although he eats really well, doesn' t seem to really want his milk/formula during the day, he finishes 1x200ml bottle throughout the day, a sip here and there, but at night he will have a 200ml bottle every 4 hours. He has a really satisfying supper and goes to bed at 7pm. Then he will wake at 10pm, 2am and then again at 6am. After that he is not interested in drinking anymore. Our clinic sister advised to give him water at night when he wakes up, I' m not too sure about this as this would mean that he will have too little formula during the day. Should he be drinking so many bottles still at night? He is currently on Lactogen2 and weighs 10.7kg and measures in at 74cm.

Your son's present weight is well above the average for his age so he is definitely getting enough formula. He seems to has reversed the day-night feeding pattern. This is common and with time he will change to a more regular schedule. If you give him water at night this will leave him hungry and he will not be happy.
