1 year old waking up at night

Hi Doc,

My one year old son is a healthy boy who is the perfect weight according to his growth chart. He drinks and eats well, and is an active boy. However, he wakes at night hungry...what can I do?

Your baby son has done very well. I presume that he wakes only once at night. Although he is already one year old it would still be worthwhile trying him on a special formula for hungry babies called Novalac SD[Sweet Dreams] at bedtime. He can start directly onto this formula.

This is perfectly normal at a year old. Most children don''t reliably sleep through the night until about age two or three. Babies wake for reasons other than hunger as well - thirst, comfort, not wanting to be alone.
