Q.

1 year old still diarrhea

Dear Prof

I posted end of last week re my son who was having a runny tummy due to Novalac IT. I changed him to normal formula, but his tummy is still runny. This is now entering the third week? I have to mention 2 things - he is teething and the stools smell very ''acid'' (he has a nappy rash too). Could it be due to the teething? Many thanks for taking the time to reply to my posts.

I am not happy to put this down to teething. The Novalac IT formula is rich in lactose and could possibly have started off some lactose intolerance with your baby. It may be worthwhile trying him on a soya formula such as Isomil 2 for a few weeks to allow him to settle down.He should be kept off all dairy for this period.
