1 Year old not sleeping

Hi doctor,

my son is a year old and not sleeping through. He naps in the morning and in the afternoon from 16:30 - 17:30 and then he goes to bed at 21:30. He will then wake up 3 times or more during the night crying and won' t stop unless I put him in our bed. Is it seperation anxiety or teething or am I doing something else wrong.

He' s also refusing to eat at night, he won' t eat Purity or anything else, maybe just some toast and I don' t know if he then might be hungry during the night. He has his last bottle at 20:00.

No wonder you are tired. Your baby has only one idea every night and that is to get into your bed. His afternoon nap is too late and he then goes to sleep very late for a child of his age. 7:30pm or 8pm would be the latest you should settle him down for the night. He must sleep earlier in the afternoon. Give him his bottle and settle him for the night. If he wakes during the night he can have one additional bottle of milk-not toast! Then its over to the controlled crying method if he wakes up again after that. Look up this method in previous answers to parents on this forum or on Google.Do not allow him to get into your bed.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I know that his afternoon nap is too late, but he won' t sleep before then, sometimes he' ll go to sleep at 11:00 in the morning and then go straight through till 21:30, I don' t know how he does it, because he will be happy, but awake. The other problem is that he is very restless during the night, he woke up last night screaming for half an hour and I couldn' t calm him down, it was as if he was in pain, arching his back and rolling all over the place. He finally went back to sleep at 1:00 this morning. I gave him milk of magnesium, because I read your post about the reflux, so I don' t know. Please can you help?

He has to go for his 1 year checkup, but I just can' t get an appointment anywhere for him at the moment.
