1 month old - Flu

Hi Dr,

My 4 week old baby girl has been sufferring with Flu for more than a week now.
My gp prescribed the ffg: Orelox, Bisolven,Isalen Spray, Panado Drops. I can' t seem to undestand why this is not helping with the phlemm on her chest and her blocked nose.

Since last nite she has not been feeding well and falling asleep whilst only breastfeeding for 5-10 minutes.
I' m a bit concerned that this may lead to bronchitis.
What should I do?

Your baby has a viral illness probably due to a virus called the RS virus. The mucous on her chest means that her chest has been affected by this virus causing an illness called bronchiolitis. Antibiotics will not work against a virus infection.Bisolvon will not help in such a young baby either and may cause some tummy discomfort.Use infant saline nose drops to clear her nose. She will need these drops at least twice daily. She cannot breastfeed properly if her nose is blocked so use the saline regularly. This illness usually takes about 10 to 14 days to clear up. If your baby becomes short of breath or feverish then please have her seen by a paediatrician.
