Fielders normally suffer from a partial rupture that will heal in about three weeks if the inflammation clears. But if the inflammation remains, you may have a complete rupture, in which case you must rest or the injury could become chronic and keep you out of action for months.
Symptoms
- Pain in the shoulder, especially when you raise the arm above your shoulders
- Pain when you rotate your arm inwards
- Pain if you press where the tendon is inserted

- See a sports injury specialist
- Take anti-inflammatories
- Sports massage
- Follow a professionally drawn up mobility, flexibility and strength-training programme
