Thrower's elbow

Also known as “golfer's elbow” and medically known as “medial epicondylitis,” thrower’s elbow is the same as tennis elbow, only it affects the inside of the elbow.

Symptoms

  • A painful inner elbow, especially when you grip something hard
  • Weakness in the wrist

What can be done about it?

  • Apply ice for twenty-minute periods, six times a day for up to two days
  • Apply heat after two days
  • Rest
  • Make use of an elbow brace or supportive bandage
  • See a sports injury specialist
  • Apply ultrasound or laser treatment
  • Take anti-inflammatories
  • Sports massage
  • Get a steroid injection
  • Make sure that you have the correct throwing technique
  • If you have a weak wrist or elbow, use a forearm brace or a heat retainer on the field until you are fully rehabilitated
