An end to sniffles and sinusitis

accreditation

If you are struggling with sinusitis and winter sniffles, these tricks will help you feel better and 100% ready for spring and summer.

  • Add fresh fruit such as oranges to your diet. Not only are they full of vitamin C but their bright colour and fresh smell will lift anyone's spirits.
  • Add extra raw garlic to your salad or pasta dish. It's a natural antibiotic and an excellent immune booster that helps to keep the flu virus at bay.

For blocked sinuses, use your fingers and apply pressure to the following points:

  • Place your thumbs on your inner eyebrow, drop them slightly so that they fit comfortably alongside your nose, drop your head, apply slight pressure for 20 seconds, and gently remove your thumbs.
  • Pinch your eyebrows between thumb and forefinger for ten seconds. Move along from one end to the other making at least four movements along the brow.
  • Place your thumbs above your eyebrow, apply pressure for 10 seconds, lift your thumbs and move a thumb space away. Repeat this three times along the brow.
  • Place your fingers alongside your nose about half-way down and apply slight pressure for 30 seconds. Now place thumbs or fingers on your cheek bones and apply pressure for 30 seconds.

Eucalyptus, lavender and pine essential oils are very good for relieving flu and sinus symptoms and can be used in the following ways:

  • Add to the bath three to four drops of each oil. Bathe and inhale the oils for at least 15 minutes.
  • The heat of the water allows the volatile oils to lift into the air and will facilitate your breathing.
  • While you are soaking in the bath, your skin will also absorb the wonderful properties of the oils.
  • Body aches , blocked noses and a tight chest will all ease and you will sleep like a baby. Try this remedy just before going to bed.

Home remedy
Back to the fridge and kitchen cupboards for a home remedy. Make a tea using lemon juice, ginger and turmeric. For a bit of sweetness you can add honey. Grate up a piece of root ginger and place this in your teacup or teapot. To this add 1/8 teaspoon of turmeric. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice (or to your taste). Pour boiling water and allow to draw for a few minutes. Sip and enjoy. You can repeat this a couple of times during the day or drink it at night before going to bed. You will find it relieves the sinus/blocked symptoms quickly. The turmeric and ginger will relieve the inflammation.
