Tioconazole is an antifungal medication. Antifungals are drugs that clear and counter fungal infections.

 

In South Africa it is registered for the topical treatment of nail infections caused by dermatophytes, yeasts and other fungi.

 

For this medication to be effective, it has to be applied regularly, even if you do not notice an immediate effect. It is advised not to discontinue treatment before the recommended course has been completed, otherwise the original infection may return.

 

The treatment duration with tioconazole is usually between 3 and 12 months.

 

How does tioconazole work?

Tioconazole interferes with the formation of cell walls/membranes of species sensitive to the medication, thereby either inhibiting growth or killing the organism.

Overdose action
