Simethicone is prescribed to reduce flatulence and relieve abdominal pain or discomfort due to excessive gas in the digestive tract. It is rarely absorbed systemically, and has few side effects.

Simethicone is often mixed with antacid or antiflatulant preparations.

How does it work?

Simethicone is an anti-foaming agent - it reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles, causing them to combine into larger bubbles in the stomach that can be passed more easily by belching.
