Relief for heartburn

If you get mild heartburn, an antacid bought over the counter could relieve the symptoms. But there are also many other things you could do to help relieve symptoms, or even get rid of them altogether.

Take action:

Stop smoking and avoid caffeine; avoid drinking alcohol; say no to fatty and spicy foods; don't overeat; lose weight if you need to; don't eat within three hours of bedtime; raise the head of your bed 10 to 15cm; avoid pain relievers that could upset your stomach; and speak to your doctor if you're popping antacids regularly – you could be suffering from more than mild heartburn.
