Q.

URGENT Hearing Aid

I am a deaf mother of a nine years old son. My son lost his hearing aid a few months ago. He is presently in a remedial school and to continue with speech therapy they urgently require new hearing aids which i am unable to afford right away.

How long does it take to obtain a hearing aid from a state hospital? I reside in Durban - which state hospital has audiology division?

Thanks

Hi Deborah!

In regard to your query it is important to note that depending on where you live, you will fall under a certain catchment area. Each catchment area has a hospital to which patients are referred to for such services.

You will need to contact your closest state hospital, to find out which hospital in Durban you can access for required Audiological services. Each state hospital has a waiting list in regard to hearing aids, however, in most instances, school aged children are advocated for and noted as a priority. Hence, the amount of time taken with regard to the above would be dependent on the above and specific to the Audiology department thereof.

Kind regards,
