Hearing management

Re New Technology

Hi Izabelle

Thank you for your reply. I have been to two audiologist in the past. The nerve is completely damaged, leaving me with no hearing or any real use except balance for my right ear. It is the inner ear nerve

A hearing aid is not an option. I actually do have one that a dr gave me before assesing the proper damage - at a mere cost of R8 000.00 - and I cannot use it at all. The drs (ent and audiologist in pta) also said a coglear implant wont work and also not transferring sound via vibration of the skull. Getting sound into the ear will be possible, but to get my brain to understand the sounds is the problem as there is no nerve to carry the msg

Dont get me wrong - I have adjusted quite well, just happy I can still hear in my left ear, but would be greatfull if I could regain the use of the right one

Thank you for taking the time to read the posts!

Unfortunately the advise that you have received are correct. If the nerve is damaged to that extend then neither a hearing aid or cochlear implant is an option.

In the meantime - please remember to protect that other ear. Use hearing protection when you are in very noisy circumstances. Also remember to have your hearing evaluated on a regular basis. If you struggle a lot in noise, it is possible to try certain FM Systems that could be able to increase your signal to noise ratio, but still just with that benefit in your healthy ear.

Please let me know if you need any further information

Kind regards
