Q.

perforated ear drum

i had a perforated ear drum some years ago. a week ago, i contracted a severe cold and suddenly my same ear became blocked. i then had severe pain and bleeding from the infected ear. i saw my doctor who prescribed anti biotics. i am on my 3rd day and my ear is still ' leaking'  when lying down and i am still deaf on that side. how long will this continue? I am 52 and worried i may be permanently deaf in that ear now.

Dear Blossom

If your symptoms are still persisting, then go and see your doctor again. If you are not satisfied with the results, it would be advisable to seek the expertise of an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. I would also stronly advise you to see an Audiologist for a hearing evaluation. Please feel free to contact me if you need a referral to a professional in your area (izabelle@widex.co.za)
