New technology?

Hi Dr

Do you know if there is any new help out there for me

I am 26 and lost hearing in my right ear in 2002 because of a virus that damaged the nerve in my ear that goes to the brain

Because of the nerve damage a hearing aid is not an option as my brain does not understand the sound that it hear with the hearing aid.

Any new technology or literature on this for me to look forward to?

The possibilities of treatment would depend on the extend of the damage to the nerve and whether it is in the inner ear or in the nerve. Have a full hearing evaluation done by an Audiologist, so that one can determine the full extend of the damage. If you don't know of an Audiologist in your area, then please let me know and i will gladly refer you (izabelle@widex.co.za). Higher technology level hearing aids might be an option to try, depending again on the true damage.

Please let me know if you have any further questions

Kind regards
Izabelle Pieterse
