Q.

Nerve damage to right ear

My son (5years, 6 months) went for an audiology testing and the Audiologist is of the opinion, after the full diagnostic testing that he as nerve damage to his right ear. I am taking him to the ENT later, but what I wanted to know, is what could have caused this damage?

Hi Madeleine!

There are possible reasons, however, speculation in this regard is not appropriate without a consult {possible lesions on the auditory nerve etc; that could be due to viral infections, trauma etc}. There are several tests that assess accordingly, however, it is up to the ENT to assess further, verify and treat accordingly.

kind regards...
