Lost of hearing in one ear

My husband had the Baha inplant . He complains of severe headache, almost every day. He has spoken to the doctor and he said there is nothing they can do. Is this possible?

Hi Annamarie!

Basically the Baha system is surgically implanted and allows sound to be conducted through the bone via a process known as bone conduction. The above is based on the concept of osseointegration {formation of a direct interface between an implant and bone, without intervening soft tissue}. The Baha system improves hearing greatly for qualifying patients.

With this in mind, sometimes due to constant use some individuals do complain of headaches. This may be due to the vibrotactile influence of the system. Hence, rest periods to alleviate symptoms may be warranted. Consider a cranial sacral massage as a possibility, however, consult with your doctor before pursuing it. Discuss possible solutions and pain relieving medications with your doctor. Always make sure to maintain the system appropriately and practice appropriate hygiene to negate the development of possible problems.

Monitor the situation and if it seems to escalate please follow through with your attending practitioners and request further investigation.
