Liquid from Ear

Hi Doc,
My daughter of 4 years old had her tonsils, adenoids removed and grommets inserted into both ears about 2 months ago. She has picked up a cold and has been coughing, runny nose for about a week now. Last night she woke up with a sore right ear and I noticed liquid coming out, it didn' t have an odour or anything but I am concerned. The ENT is only available to see me late tomorrow afternoon so I would like to know how bad this is. Have given her Stopayn but am worried about her as it seems painful, is this common?

Dear Colleen

What did the ENT say about the ear and is everything in order now? Remember it is normal to have fluid drain through the grommets when they are open and working. It regulates both fluid build-up and pressure in the middle ear.

Please let me know if you need any further information
