Q.

Hearing not so clear

Hi
I find that sometimes when people speak to me and I am not in close proximity of them I can' t always hear what they are saying to me ie. 2-3 metres away ie. my boss' s office is about 2-3 metres away and often talks to me through our open office doors. I know they are talking to me but I can' t hear what they are saying. It' s almost as if I have to stand in front of them and\or a lot closer before I can hear what they are saying. Sometimes but not often I find myself lip-reading in order to catch what they' re saying.

Dear Celeste

It is possible that you might have a bit of a high frequency hearing loss. In these cases it is easy for people to hear in one-on-one situations but difficult in noise. They also find it easy to hear that people are talking but not that easy to hear what they are saying. I would advise that you see an Audiologist for a full hearing evaluation, so that one can be sure if there is a problem and what the nature and degree of it is. If you don't know of an Audiologist in your area, please let me know and i will gladly refer you. (izabelle@widex.co.za)

Please let me know if you need any further information

Kind regards
