Hearing loss all in the mind?

I would like to know if it' s possible for a person to experience hearing loss due to psychological reasons? My girlfriend says that she has noticed my hearing has been getting much worse.

She says that I either don' t pay attention when people talk or i really am losing my hearing. What are some of the symptoms of hearing loss? I feel that I can hear just fine.

Dear Ataloss

You are actually asking a very interesting question and the answer can be yes. I have seen many cases where people experience changes in their hearing during very emotional or traumatic periods. There appears to be a link between our emotions and hearing. There are also other possibilities - you attention might be affected and there are a number of possible causes for that. Another possibility is that there might be an actual hearing problem. The best is to start with a hearing evaluation by an Audiologist, then you can start excluding possibilities. Everyone should actually have their hearing evaluated on a regular basis. Also make sure that your general health is as it should be.

If you need a referral to an Audiologist in your area, please let me know and i will gladly refer you (izabelle@widex.co.za)

Please let me know if you need any further information
