hearing dimishing

i had a hearing test the other day and discovered that i cant hear certain tones. i did suspect that i may have a hearing prob in the one hear because i do get a muffled ''numbish'' feeling in it ever now and then and a slight ache. my dad was deaf in one hear all his life so i suspect its hereditary. i am worried about it and was wondering if I could do anything to make sure its doesnt get worse as i get older (I''m 29). i also suffer from a wax discharge all the time which is annoying - can anything be done about that and could that be aggravating the hearing situation?

Dear A

Things that you can do:
- Have yourself tested on a regular basis
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle as well as diet
- Take the necessary vitamins
- Get a hearing aid for that ear, so that the nerve stays stimulated
- Have the wax removed and checked on a regular basis - it is preferable to use the suction method or dry removal
- Avoid noise exposure (if you can't lower the noise, then shorten the period that you are exposed to it)

Please let me know if you need any further information
