Q.

hearing aids?

The lady that looks after my son has a slight hearing problem. She hears certain pitches or tones, and you have to be facing her if you need to communicate something. When I speak to her face-to-face she will hear me. If I call her from the other room she will not hear me. The alarm went off in the house and she heard nothing, once a car was hooting about to bump har, coming from next to her she only saw it when I pushed her. She does not have medical aid amd at the moment we don''t know what low cost options are available for her? That''s what - would like to know.

Hi,

It sounds like she needs to see an Audiologist. She needs a full examination of the hearing system and then hearing aids can be considered. I would recommend you contact your local governemnt hospital and ask them if they have a Speech and Hearing (Audiology) Dept. You can also consider going to a Speech and Hearing Pathology Dept. at a University if one is accessible to you.
