I use cotton buds to wipe out wax from my ears every 3rd day and as an adult I am careful not to push it too deep into the ear canal. If I don''t do this my ear canals get unbearably itchy. But is this the way to go?

Dear Bheki

No it is not. The ear has a natural cleaning mechanism and interferring with it, does more harm than good. When you clean your ears, you remove the natural layer of wax that should be in the ear to protect the skin of the earcanal. You can also damage the skin and push the wax deeper into the ear. Try to break the habit and the ear will be able to restore it's natural functioning. Also remember that by removing the protective layer of wax, you leave the skin exposed and that might be what is causing the itching in the first place.
