Q.

Ear Pain and hearing loss

Hi, I have partial hearing loss in my right ear (like cottonwool stuck in my ear) since last week. There also a stabbing pain when I hear certain sounds and a high pitch buzzing noise in the same ear.... When I yawn, sneeze or even have hiccups the pain increases dramatically... Is this serious or will it pass on its own?

Thanking you in advance....
Jsinn

Dear Jsinn

I would strongly advise that you see your GP for an evaluation and if necessary he/she can then refer you for further evaluation. It is safer to have it looked at than to just wait for it to pass - you need to get to the root of the problem

Please let me know if you need any further information

Kind regards
Izabelle Pieterse

I have the exact same condition, it is called Otitis Media and needs medical intervention! I have been ' deaf'  for a week in my right ear and the ENT said I will get my hearing back in around 2 weeks. I am on a course of antibiotics, nose drops and spray. If left unattended, I would be scared that the damage and deafness could be permanent so do go see your doctor. Yours ears and hearing are too precious to just leave be!
