Q.

Deaf in one ear...

Hey,

I' m a young guy, totally deaf in one ear. No speech problems. I was born with out an outer ear or whatever it' s called...

Anyway, as with most people my age... I goto clubs and what not... my concern is that my hearing in my good ear is going to start failing me...

I' m sure that my hearing in my good ear isn' t as good as most... as of late I am struggling to hear in clubs and generally in louder environments. I also don' t hear people sneak up (well they don' t) but I think that they do sneak up on me as I don' t hear them.

Is there like a device or something that I can use for better hearing? Should I maybe go see an audioologist ? What do you think?

Thanks

Dear the Sound

It would be a very good idea to see an Audiologist that can discuss all the options with you. One will need to evaluate the hearing and see if there are any damage. If you don't know of a Audiologist in your area, then please mail me at izabelle@widex.co.za for a referral.

In the meantime, please try to protect your hearing as far as possible, if you want more tips on how to do this, then mail me for that info as well

Kind regards
Izabelle Pieterse

I had an op about 4 yrs ago, the left ear was the bad ear, but now that is the better ear, the right ear makes a lot of noises and esp when I sleep there is huge noises like drumming noises, hearing has really gone down in that ear. I really struggle to ear, cannot eat and hear at the same time. Pse help me, or advise me to go for hearing aids, last year I wanted to have another op, I' m finding difficult to cope with my hearing loss.
