Constant need to " pop"

My ears always feel " blocked"  and I need to hold my nose and blow, to release or " pop"  them. It' s been going on for years now (since high school - I' m 22 now). A few years ago a GP prescribed something which was supposed to help, but it seemed to permenantly block my ears, which caused a lot of pain.

A year or two ago another GP diagnosed me with Meniere' s syndrome, as I was experiencing terrible dizzyness. I was put on treatment, and the symptoms went away after about a month.

I' ve been managing with the constant " popping" , but have been experiencing sudden, sharp pains in my ears recently. I' m not sure, but the fact that I' m working in a closed room with 10 screeching lovebirds, might have something to do with it. But I don' t get the pains when I' m with the birds, they occur quite randomly a few times a week.

My hearing also seems to fluctuate. Sometimes the TV seems painfully loud when it' s on a volume setting I' m usually used to.

Any advice would be appreciated. I' m wary to take any medication due to my past experience.

Dear Savera

I would strongly recommend that you see an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist and get to the root of the problem. I would also advise you to see an Audiologist for a full hearing evaluation and balance testing after you have been to the ENT. If you don't know of someone in your area, then please let me know and i will gladly refer you. (izabelle@widex.co.za). An ENT will be best equipped to diagnosis and treat the problem.

Please let me know if you have any further questions

Kind regards
