Q.

Want to find out about continual bass rumble in right ear

I am a 63 year old man living in a small town, Grahamstown. For a month I have experienced a low rumbling sound in my right ear in my house. I live in a quiet neighbourhood. I don't seem to hear this sound in other areas. I have heard a similar sound on and off over many years (I thought it might have been trucks whose drivers leave their engines on the whole night because of starter motor problems). However, it was pretty irregular. Now it's almost all the time. I can't seem to locate any likely source. Switched off all my machines in my house. I would like answers to the following questions, if possible: 1) Is it an internal or an external problem 2) Should I have my ears tested? My hearing seems fine. 3) Ear plugs provide little relief. The only time I can cut out the sound is when I push my index finger in my ear. What would you suggest practically? Your response would be greatly appreciated.
